“Our Lord! Grant us the good of this world and the Hereafter, and protect us from the torment of the Fire.”

Read the verses first and then come back for an understanding of what it means and what lessons can be taken away from them.

Abraham & the Arrogant King V258

Ibraheem AS had a King whom had the audacity to portray his ignorance and stubbornness. "Allah had granted him kingship" Being given power, might & wealth is something which can be the destruction of a person. When you become blind to whom has given you this wealth, you believe it was me! This king had transgressed and thought that being merely in control of his subjects was a means to argue with Ibraheem AS about the Lordship of Allah! Ibrahim AS says "My Lord is he who gives life and death" meaning that Allah gives life to those that are unborn and meaning that death is the start of the life in the grave and the day of resurrection. The King was comparing this to merely murdering a subject and in the action of murdering a subject, stopping the killing and letting him free. What we can take from this is that there are people whom will argue with us with silly comparisons. As you can see, Allah giving life and death is completely different to what this king has shown Ibraheem AS to be life and death.

Due to the kings stubbornness, Ibraheem AS decided to give another example. The example was "But it is Allah Who brings the sun from the east so bring it from the west". This challenge was a purposeful as even those that do not believe in life after death, acknowledge and see the Sun. This is impossible for the king to do, so he was confounded. This is a sign of an individual who clearly sees and understands the truth, yet denies it. Allah does not guide wrongdoing people, rather they're left in their state of misguidance.

A great lesson an be learnt here. When in conversation with people, one size does not fit all. The same argument that you may propose to a atheist may not work on a Christian. It is best to conversate with those on a level which they will understand and process the information. Ibraheem AS changed his argument when he saw that the king was being stubborn with the points mentioned.

May Allah help us in a way which allows us to convey the one true message in its true form, Ameen.
